A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a taxi on Manhattan’s Upper East Side yesterday. The woman was crossing the street when the cab, apparently attempting to get through the light just before it turned red, hit her. Her body was dragged by the cab for about half a block.
The New York Post, which reported the accident, says that several fellow pedestrians lifted the cab off of the woman, but were unable to resuscitate her at the scene. She subsequently died at Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The Post intimates that the driver may have been speeding, although no record of the speed is provided. It was also unclear whether or not the driver made the yellow light or ran a red light, meaning that the pedestrian would have had the right of way. Both of these considerations could factor into any potential litigation stemming from the accident.
