NY1 has reported that New York State Police will be focusing on distracted drivers this week in a campaign similar to one run over the Thanksgiving holiday last year. State police will be targeting drivers using mobile devices such as cell phones and PDA’s.
New York Vehicle and Traffic law states that, with exceptions, “no person shall operate a motor vehicle while using any portable electronic device while the vehicle is in motion.” The growing ubiquity of mobile devices led to the enactment of this law. Safety while driving should always be a priority, and avoiding mobile device usage while driving a vehicle is an important aspect of maintaining safe roadways.
