Below please find a brief summary of various enforcement actions taken against New York nursing home personnel from 12/15/11 to 3/15/12 by the NYS Office of the Medicaid Inspector General.
Last December two Registered Nurses at Glen Island Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in New Rochelle, NY were indicted by the Medicaid Fraud Unit. Marlon Legaspi allegedly tampered with physical evidence by adding orders to residents’ medical records. Maria Salomon-Rosanes allegedly made false entries in various medical records.
James Jones, a nurse’s aide at Beechwood Homes in Amherst, NY allegedly struck an 87 year old resident suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease. This act of physical abuse caused the resident to sustain a fractured left femur that required surgical repair. Mr. Jones was indicted on 2/05/2012.
Valerie Allen, a Certified Nurses Aide at Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca, NY was indicted on 02/05/2012 for allegedly stealing a credit card from a male resident, and then forging the name of the resident during shopping trips at various stores.
Leonard Clark, CNA, at Guilderland Center Nursing Home in Albany, NY allegedly grabbed a 95 year old resident’s breast, leaving a significant bruise. Clark initially claimed he had given the elderly woman a bear hug to prevent her from falling, but later admitted it was much as the resident had claimed. He was indicted as a result of the incident on 1/16/2012.
