Massachusetts Teenager Faces One Year in Prison after Homicide Conviction in Texting While Driving Case

Aaron Deveau, an 18 year old Massachusetts teenager, is facing one year in prison after being convicted of vehicular homicide in a case involving texting while driving. In February of 2010, Deveau’s car struck another vehicle, leaving the other driver and passenger seriously injured. The driver eventually died from his injuries. Deveau had been texting while driving.

This event and conviction serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of distracted driving. As we have discussed previously in this blog, laws are in place prohibiting texting while driving in New York. There have also been several campaigns to catch distracted drivers in the act to deter future occurrences. In the end, it is up to each driver to monitor him or herself, to ensure that they comply with the law and common sense. The case of Aaron Deveau is a sobering reminder of the potential tragedy that can ensue from distracted driving.
